Classic: No More Heroes
First off I want to explain why I didn't post the other day. It was because all this week I've been having to go to SAT prep courses and also do some work around the house. The last review was hard to get down into my blog before my schedule swelled me up once again. Now I can start writing again. So I'm bringing you a classic as I call out. A few years ago Suda51 also known as Goichi Suda, a well-known game developer made a game which is known as "No More Heroes".
Now Suda51 has brought some of the most visual and oddest stories really. He brought killer7 a point-and-click shooter which starred a hitman with multiple personalities and an interesting DS game called "Flower, Sun, Rain: Unending Paradise". So with NMH for the Wii, it was interesting to see what he created now. Before the Wii was known for only producing family-oriented and somewhat kiddy games. A Mature rated game for the Wii was rare. Suda51 pushed the envelope on that as he brought NMH. Not only do NMH contains mass amount of gore and violence, it pushed ahrder with many sexual references and a usually thought of morally wrong character as some would say. You played Travis, an otaku who won a beam katana online. With this katana he sets out to prove himself and become rank 1# of an assassin organization. The gameplay is easy, sandbox city, get money by doing oddjobs consisting of minigames and fighting. Get enough money to pay for your chance to defeat the next assassin. Kill the assasin rinse and repeat. But teh formula worked. NMH was addictingly fun. Players could finish all their enemies with a finsihing moves that could range from decapitating them to cutting them in half vertically. As well as a crazy amount of bosses he had to face.
The game used the Wii-mechanics to some of the best seen abilities for that time. It showed how hardcore the Wii could be.
I wasn't the only one to believe that as Suda51 is developing a sequel to NMH known as "NMH: Desperate Struggle" following him to take revenge over the death of a minor character from the last game. If you have a Wii and haven't played NMH pick up a copy or rent it today.

Review: Wolverine Origins Uncaged Edition
WO is a fun game, it's bloody, and gory. Something you would never expect out of a game, Wolverine is better than ever. You can excuete your opponents in so many ways that you've never imagined. If you've enjoyed games such as God of War or Devil May Cry prepare to have a nice game to play. Now unlike many movie games, WO doesn't follow the movie's story exclusivley. It has it's own story to tell which makes playing this game an entire new experience for you if you've seen the movie. So how does a badass character such as Wolverine get killed. Well the system is like this, the more damage you take the more your vital organs and skeleton is exposed. Destroying the skeleton kills you. However you regenerate over time. It's a cool experience to see his entire body recover itself real time as bullets rip into his flesh exposing his organs. Since Wolverine is an animal, he needs animal senses which he has. You can use your heightened senses to make your range of hearing enemies spotting useful things and etc. Fighting is simplified to your basic swing attacks with your claws. Heavy attacks which involves stabs and implaing your enemy and of course the usual grabs. The more you fight the more "rage" you build up. Getting this meter filled results in a blood bath of fun for you and Wolverine.
You can also use the lunge move. Which is a move that allows you to close the large gap between you and an enemy by jumping at them and stabbing them tot he ground. Allowing you to use their body as a soft bloody cusion.
Now WO isn't all great times. There are a few misses with this game. It's pretty easy to beat. The difficulty is somewhat challenging at times but you should blaze through this pretty easily and quickly. Also it get's repititive sometimes. New area, group of enemies, kill said enemies. Rinse and repeat with a few bosses, mini-bosses and action sequences thrown in. But all in all WO is bearable, which can't be said for alot of movie games. For all it's small faults it's a fun game. Not to complex, but just enough to make it a fun romp with Wolverine. I enjoy what Raven did here and how they did it. I hope this can set the bar for movie games now. So it isn't an immediate buy, but if your looking to rent a good game to relax into WO might just be your cup of tea. Hopefully we'll be able to see a new X-Men Legends game soon enough.

Inside Look: Dissidia/
In other Final Fantasy-related news, the release date for FFXIII is still a mystery. Slated to be released Spring 2010. Gamers don't have an exact day to look forward to. Unfortunatley, release dates are never set as there have already been push backs from the Japanese release dates. However this may be due to the development of FFXIII Versus and FFAXIII, so that all three games will be released simultaneously. Also trailers for FFXIV have already been presented during this years E3. This is an online counterpart much like FFXI. Also scheduled to be released somewhere in 2010. However I have to be skeptical in thinking there rushing FFXIV a bit to much. I mean releasing five Fantasy games within two years is a little crazy. But for sure Square Enix is giving their fans alot to look forward to. It's not going to be the year of the tiger rather the year of Final Fantasy. Hopefully we'll get news on exact release dates.
This concludes the post for this week. I'll be back with a new post next monday.

Review: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
MHFU is the latest game in the "Monster Hunter" franchise. Yet again, it comes to you for Playstation Portable. MHFU is an expansion to the original Monster Hunter Freedom 2. In addition to MHF2's original base game. MHFU boasts new quests, new equipment, new monsters, higher levels of equipment, new Felyne Fighter addition, and multiplayer. The basis of all MH games is you take your customized character and hunt monsters for profit. This newest expansion does no different. The MH have always shown a long-lasting playtime. Fun gameplay, and a large amount of quests to complete. Some quests however seemed repeated as the collection quests, which are the most of your beginning quests, seem like playing through the same level checking the same spots over and over again. Weapons are wide and expansion allowing you to choose a number of hunting tools to take along with you. With use of a certain weapon it's sharpness goes down making it weaker. To sharpen it, it requires whetstones, an item which can be bought and is usually supplied. However the sharpening goes dull much to quick. Making it a sort of annoyance than a realistic aspect. Felyne fighters are cat-creatures that, when bought, will aide you on your quest, or work in your kitchen. When aiding you on a quest. They will attack the enemy you are attacking at will. Place bombs and explosive if necessary and provide an excellent use of bait. The AI for the Felyne is good is such situations as it waits till you clear the area before bombing your enemy. However there true use is the exploited invincibility. If they are knocked down and unconscious they will eventually wake up after a short period of time. An ample strategy is to distract the quarry with one of the Felynes and then attack from behind hitting various weak spots. The monster usually never take their sights of them. There other use however is in the kitchen. You can essentially buy the Feylnes from a Feylne trader. So after buying your new slaves you can force them to work in your kitchen making new items that can heal you, or help you in many other ways. However you need to give your Felyne jobs or they might spend their time resting all day if left alone. This is not the best feature in MHFU. The multiplayer shines were gameplay might at times fail. There is nothing more fun than getting a few of your friends, connecting your PSPs together and go kill some major monster. Some monsters are just impossible to go it alone. Whether you have a Felyne fighter or a bunch of friends. As the game title state, you need to "unite" to take down certain foes. This provides a replay value as you go back to original missions once done alone and you see how you can do while on a team. Overall MHFU is a good game, if you've played MHF2 there still awaits for you more monsters and treasures to find in this expansion. For those who haven't played a MH game to date. I suggest you try. Hopefully the MH franchise will be letting us slay new monsters in the future.
